Iphone People can Hear me but I can't hear them - Audio Issue on Apple Iphone 2g, 3g, 3gs, 4 and 5
By TheSituation
One of the most common questions I receive regarding the iphone has to do with the loss of sound through the earpiece. This can be caused by several things and may not be fixable if it is actually a speaker issue. That being said, there are several things that you can try in order to fix this issue.
The first thing to try is a hard reset on the device. Remove the SIM card, use the bent end of a paper clip or something like that to pop open the little tray that the SIM is in.
Then,
hold down the sleep/wake button at the top of the phone AND the Home
Key. Hold both of them down at the same time for at LEAST 20 seconds or
until the phone resets When you see the silver Apple logo, release the
buttons and imedietly plug the iphone into either your wall charger or
the USB cable connected to your computer (to provide a power source.)
It can take a couple of minutes for it too boot backup

If that does not work, then
- Make sure that nothing is plugged into the headset port, like headsets, headphones etc.
- 2G iPhone only: While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris in the headset port:
If it is still not working, one of two things is going on, either the little headset indicator
inside the headset jack hole is stuck, got debris, lint etc in it so the
phone thinks that there is a headset in and is shutting of the earpiece
speaker. If this is the case, use a can of compressed air, like what
is used to clean keyboards and blow the heck out of that little hole and
or get a q tip with a TINY as in almost none, of rubbing alcohol on it
and give it a good swabbing. MAKE sure you have VERY little alcohol on
it!!
If none of that works, put the headset jack in the hold and
wiggle it around a bunch, might have to do that a few times. If none of
that works then the other thing it could be is that the speaker on the
earpiece is out, I really hope that is not it as that means that the
phone needs to go to apple to be repaired :(
